Local Club Managers Get Trained On Mass Shooting Situations, Terror Attacks

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - For years club and bar managers had to be ready for fires, unruly patrons, even natural disasters, but after the Orlando attack, many are preparing for mass shootings and terror attacks.

"We have to think about these this day in age, which is unfortunate, but something we have to do," said John Demma, General Manager of Dive Bar, District 30, & Pizza Rock.

Demma along with many local managers and owners are now turning to the experts.

"Patrons are going to be turning to the first people that appear to be officials and those are going to be security staff and managers and they're going to be instrumental in executing a plan which ultimately will save lives," said Sgt. Lane Polete with Sacramento Police.

Officers held a training session for bar owners and managers to help assist them in case something like this happens here.

"I'll gather my staffs together from each of the venues to create kind of a plan to plant the seed that should this ever go down, this is how we want to do it," Demma said.

Police stressed the importance of having a plan and to recognize a crisis sooner and how to respond if that happens.

"One of the things they said was to run, hide, or fight, which honestly I would've never thought about. I would've just thought run," Demma said.
