Ose: VP Nominee Mike Pence 'Hit A Home Run' With RNC Speech

CLEVELAND (CBS13) - A former California Congressman is among those reacting strongly to the speech Ted Cruz delivered at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night.

We spoke with Doug Ose via Skype from Cleveland. Ose sat front and center as Donald Trump's rival spoke without giving the Republican Nominee his endorsement.

"The politicians and people interested in the political process started booing, rightly so -- some of them turned their back on him -- I mean, Cruz made a serious mistake yesterday", Ose tells CBS13 News.

Ose, a seasoned politician who lost a close race to Ami Bera for a Congressional Seat in 2014 representing Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova and Folsom, provided an interesting theory on the Cruz speech. He says don't rule out the theory Trump agreed to give his rival a prime-time speaking slot knowing he wasn't going to endorse him -- to give Cruz the political rope to hang himself.

"Cruz just walked right into it. I mean, right into it, Ose said. "Because if it was a trap, man, it was a good one. I mean, Cruz is gonna have hell to pay here," he said.

Ose also tells us his former Congressional colleague and vice presidential nominee Mike Pence "hit a home-run" in delivering his speech at the RNC.
