Man Convicted Of Trying To Kill TV Anchor In San Diego

SAN DIEGO (AP) - A house painter has been convicted of attempted murder for the shooting of a San Diego TV sports anchor last year.

A jury on Wednesday found 55-year-old Mike Montana guilty of shooting Kyle Kraska. He could get nearly 38 years to life in prison at sentencing.

Kraska, the sports director and on-air anchor for San Diego's CBS News 8, was shot four times including twice in the chest outside his home in February, 2015.

Kraska had hired Montana to paint the house the previous October, but says Montana quit before the job was halfway done and later sent Kraska a threatening letter demanding payment.

Montana's attorney says he was not trying to kill Kraska, only to shoot his car, and that Montana's mental state was altered by prescription pain medications.
