Local Pastor Who Delivered Anti-Gay Sermon Begins 'Red-Hot Speaking Conference'

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The local Baptist preacher who praised the attack in Orlando is sparking new outrage in Sacramento.

Pastor Roger Jimenez' remarks came the Sunday morning after the attacks in Orlando. On Thursday night, the pastor begins a controversial four- day speaking series of so-called "like-minded pastors."

CBS 13's Lemor Abrams is there live with supporters and protestors.

Pastor Roger Jimenez topped headlines with his inflammatory YouTube video praising the Orlando nightclub shootings. But a month later, Pastor Jimenez says he's on top of the world as he prepares to take the stage again.

This time, preaching to new international followers visiting his small Natomas church for what he calls a four -day "red-hot preaching conference".

"If preaching the bible is controversial, then I guess it'll be controversial," said Jimenez.

His recent notoriety has attracted hundreds of supporters from as far as New Zealand -- many, not as interested in the spotlight.

Reporter: "You came all the way from Atlanta, why are you here?

Supporter: "Ummm...I gotta go..."

While supporters declined to share their message, Don McCormick is hard at work forming his "Kiss Away Hate."

"[It's] girls kissing girls. Boys kissing boys," said McCormick.

McCormick has invited a thousand protestors to stand in direct contrast with the pastor and his congregation.

"Most of the congregation brings children, and so the children have to walk by and see this and I think it plants a seed and it starts a conversation," he said.

His protest will merge with the "Love is Love Movement."

"If we could all just embrace each other, and who we are, and affirm each other for who we are and celebrate that then the world will be a much better place," said Beverly Kearney, founder of "Love is Love."

Jimenez says he sees the world differently.

Reporter: "What do you plan on saying?"

Jimenez: "Well, you'll have to come to find out."

Conference:

The speaking series begins 7pm Thursday, at Verity Baptist Church. A different pastor will speak each night. Pastor Jimenez will take the stage Sunday.
