Man Allegedly Brandishing Knife At Costco In Modesto Shot By Off-Duty Officer

MODESTO (CBS13) - Modesto police are investigating a shooting that occurred outside of a Costco on Thursday.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. at 3801 Pelandale Avenue. Police received several reports of a man armed with a knife inside the store.

Security personnel at the store confirm the man was in the area of the food court and was making threatening motions with the knife toward customers when an off-duty California Department of Corrections officer shot the man.

The suspect, a 61-year-old Modesto resident, was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. The off-duty corrections officer was not injured, according to Chris Adams, a spokesperson for the Modesto Police Department.

Costco was temporarily closed.
