Driver In Deadly Tour Bus Crash Lost License Briefly In 2015, But Drove Anyway

LIVINGSTON (CBS13) — The driver in a deadly tour bus crash lost the right to drive a bus for two months in 2015. CBS13 has uncovered, Mario Vasquez was caught driving the same bus involved in Tuesday's crash, during the period he was not allowed to drive commercially.

According to Oregon DMV records, Vasquez was cited in October 2014, for speeding in Deschutes County, Oregon for going 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. In January of that year, he was busted in Washington State for the illegal, improper and unsafe use of change of lanes.

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Vasquez was deemed unqualified to drive a bus between January 24, 2015 and March 24, 2015 over a serious traffic infraction.

Federal records show the same bus involved in Tuesday's crash was inspected on February 5, 2015 in Oregon. The driver was cited for operating on a suspended Commercial Drivers license and the bus was ordered out of service. Court records obtained by CBS13 confirm Vasquez was cited that same day for operating a vehicle without driving privileges. He pled no contest in March 2015 and paid a $260 fine.
