Filipino Lawmaker Moves To Ban Donald Trump From Philippines

MANILA (CBS13) - A Filipino lawmaker is moving to have Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump banned from the country.

Jose Salceda represents the Albay province of the Philippines. In response to a recent tirade by Trump against immigrants, which included singling out immigrants from the Philippines, Albay put forth a resolution to ban the presidential candidate for being "inimical to the national interest."

Trump's speech in Maine on Thursday called for people to be weary of immigrants - including those coming legally - from "terrorist nations."

"There's no way of vetting them, you have no idea who they are. This could be the great Trojan Horse of all time," Trump said in the speech. "An immigrant from Afghanistan who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, an illegal permanent resident from the Philippines were convicted from plotting to join Al Qaeda and the Taliban in order to kill as many Americans as possible."

Salceda took exception to Trump's comments, especially given the fact that according to US State Department numbers around 4 million people of Filipino descent live in the US.

"There is no feasible basis or reasonable justification to the wholesale labeling of Filipinos as coming from a 'terrorist state' or that they will be a Trojan Horse," Salceda said in the resolution, according to PhilStar.

The resolution is not binding.
