UPDATE: Search And Rescue Volunteer Wounded In Nevada County

10:40 p.m. UPDATE: The search and rescue volunteer has been successfully extricated and has been transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

9:40 p.m. UPDATE: Two shots were reportedly heard, with one striking the search and rescue volunteer.

The injured volunteer was hit in the hip, but is conscious and talking.

The riverbed is proving difficult to access in a remote area and the focus is on getting to the victim.

The search continues for who fired the shots.


9:10 P.M. UPDATE: Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal tells CBS13 that a Placer County Search And Rescue volunteer was shot in the hip while searching for a missing person.

Two other volunteers who were with the victim sheltered in place to protect themselves

They were searching for a missing 75-year-old man from Tulare near the town of Washington.

Helicopters from four law enforcement agencies are searching for the shooter.

8:10 p.m. UPDATE: Law enforcement officials have said an officer has been shot.

The officer's condition is unknown, and there is no word on what agency that officer is with.

NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) -- The Sacramento Police Department tells CBS13 they are sending their helicopter to the Nevada County area to assist deputies with an active shooter situation.

Nevada County Sheriff's deputies have not given any details on the situation.

State parks officials say law enforcement officials are staging at the Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park.

A helicopter from the medical service REMSA in Reno is also responding, a representative said. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office in Reno says they have also been notified of the situation and are on standby.
