Man Steals Empty School Bus, Quickly Crashes
THERMAL, Calif. (AP) -- The Riverside County Sheriff's Department says an attempt to steal a school bus quickly ended with a crash in Thermal.
Officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday to Coachella Valley High School and found that a bus stolen from a fenced parking lot had crashed into a set of classroom trailers.
A La Quinta man was hospitalized for treatment of crash injuries. The Sheriff's Department says he's under investigation for vehicle theft, driving under the influence and vandalism.
