Damien: Predictions For SummerSlam Weekend - Part 1
WWE's biggest event of the summer and second biggest event of the year takes place this weekend.
For the second time in a row, the WWE will run three-straight nights at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, hoping to match the overwhelming success last years edition of the event produced.
Having been there last year for two of the three nights (NXT and Raw), I can tell you they have a tough task ahead, but surpassing the 2015 version is very doable.
Here's a preview, not only of SummerSlam, but of the entire weekend:
Saturday - NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN II
Asuka vs Bayley - NXT Women's Championship
The storyline here is interesting - Bayley beat Sasha Banks, in Brooklyn one year ago, to win her first NXT Women's Championship. She subsequently lost it, and was dominated in the process, to Asuka. Now she aims to become the first two-time NXT Women's Champion. She's the most over women in NXT and is one of the most over women in the entire company. Her time in NXT is coming to an end so how they get out of this match while making everyone look strong will be interesting.
Prediction - Asuka
Sunday - SUMMERSLAM
Cesaro vs Sheamus
Raw GM Mick Foley announced Monday this match will kickoff a best-of-seven series between the two. What that means… this match doesn't matter and you'll see the exact same one six more times.
Prediction - it doesn't matter. They obviously threw this together cause they have no idea what to do with these two guys.
The Miz vs Apollo Crews - Intercontinental Title
They have a long way to go to make the IC title matter again. With that said, The Miz is a fantastic heel who, given the right program, can be the one to elevate the title.
Prediction - Win or lose, Apollo Crews won't stop smiling.
Enzo and Big Cass vs Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho
This match was designed for no other reason than to ensure Enzo can get on the mic in front of a Brooklyn audience and the heel-loving New York crowd can cheer Kevin Owens. Enzo and Cass will provide the prematch entertainment while Jericho and Owens will carry the in-ring work.
Prediction - Big Cass pins Chris Jericho
Prediction Part II - At some point during this show, Enzo, Cass, and Carmella will cross paths on camera to a massive pop.
The New Day vs Anderson and Gallows
How do you cool off one of the hottest acts in the last decade? You center their title defense against their biggest foes to date around the crushing of one members testicles.
Prediction - The Brooklyn crowd will love both teams. The Brooklyn crowd will hate everything about Big E's testicles. The Brooklyn crowd will react favorable when Anderson and Gallows end the New Days lengthy tag title reign.
