Lanes Closed On Westbound I-80 In Sacramento Beginning Friday Night

Drivers are being urged to avoid Interstate 80 in Sacramento this weekend to avoid long delays.

The closures are part of the ongoing road work in the area called the Across the Top project.

Interstate 80 will be reduced to one lane between W. El Camino and the Garden Highway, starting at 6 p.m. Friday. In addition, westbound onramps at Interstate 5, Truxel Road and W. El Camino Avenue will also be closed.

All closures are expected to be lifted by 5 a.m. Meantime, drivers are urged to take Capital City Freeway instead.

"As of 6 p.m. tonight, we'll be reduced to one lane on Westbound lane I-80. You'll want to take an alternate route. Make plans ahead because there will be severe delays. Could be up to one hour," a Caltrans spokesperson told CBS13.

The agency says this is the last major lane closure before the project's estimated mid-November completion date.
