2 Killed In Head-On Crash On Highway 99; DUI Suspected

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - Authorities say alcohol looks to be a factor in a late night crash that killed two people on Highway 99.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday on Highway 99 just north of Elkhorn Boulevard. California Highway Patrol says a Honda Accord being driven by a 21-year-old man was heading the wrong way on the southbound side of the freeway when it crashed head-on into a Toyota Land Crusier.

Both the driver and passenger in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP says.

Officers say the driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

CHP says they believe alcohol played a part in the crash, but the incident is still under investigation.
