Sacramento Fans React To San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Kneeling

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – NFL fans were fired up as the "Star Spangled Banner" played out at local bars and restaurants and 49er's Colin Kaepernick kneeled.

"I think it's ridiculous he just pisses me off. I'm just frustrated by it. I get it, he gets the right to do what he wants to do and protest it, but it still pisses me off," said Michael Cruz while watching the game at the Firestone Public House in Midtown.

Kaepernick took a knee and was joined by teammate Eric Reid while 248 military members held the flag over the field as the anthem was sung.

"How many times have we called upon our military to protect us, to give us our freedoms, and our flag and anthem always have to be respected period," said Molly Fitzgerald while watching on the big screen.

Others we spoke with tell us that's the point.

"Let's move on because it takes attention away from the proud men and women in that community who serve where the attention should be," said Ken Simonton who also said it's Kaepernick's right to freedom of speech, "It's his right as an American, so if we really believe in your right as an American, it's an non story."

Many others we spoke with agreed.

"I think he has a right to do however he feels. If he felt that way that he didn't need to stand up then that's his opinion," said Cynthia Adams.

Kaepernick is also gaining attention for wearing cartoon police pig socks during practice last month.

He wrote on twitter the socks were worn before he took a public stance, but others called Kaepernick's actions lately, a Hail Mary.

"He's just doing all sorts of things trying to initiate some sort of reaction. Is it effective like that? I just don't think it's the right issues, we're talking about him not the issues that he's trying to bring up, that's just the part that pisses me off," Cruz said.
