What To Do In Sacramento Over Labor Day Weekend

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Staying in Sacramento for the Labor Day weekend? You'll have plenty of activities to choose from.

We begin in 1849 with a return to the golden days of Sacramento's bright future.

"They're so authentic," said Brooksie Hughes the Old Sacramento District Director, "they're so engaged."

Sacramento Gold Rush Days is a celebration of food, music and culture from the period.

"From the clothes to the attitudes to the brawls to the dancing," said Hughes.
There are education programs for kids during the day and saloon crawls and concerts at night.

" [There is] a lot of street activity all the way around," said Hughes

From the wild west, to classical Greece.

"Opa!" shouts the crowd at the Greek Festival at the Sacramento Convention Center.

" We've been coming for over 30 years," said Susan Shambaugh, enjoying the greek music.

The Greek Festival lures you in with traditional tastes and smells.

The Greek Orthodox church of Sacramento celebrates everything Greek, from the food to the music and drinks.

"Greek Fest!" said one man.

"Good traditions. The young kids are coming back and cooking," said Shambaugh.

Everyone can take part in the art, jewelry, sweets, and treats no matter what their ethnic background.

"I'm Norwegian, said Shambaugh laughing, "[I'm] Greek at heart."

The Greek Fest will move to the church's new building next year.

Just next door at the convention center, you can be who or from wherever you want.

"I am a dancing robot named Metaton," said one woman in costume.

Sac Anime is filled with characters, big and small, colorful and dark.

"You can be from a movie, a comic, a video game," said Kristen Padilla.

The event features dozens of vendors, fashion shows, workshops and socials. If you can dream it, you can be it in Sacramento this weekend.

"You can actually be somebody else and have fun without care," said Padilla.
