SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) – A Beale airman died while on a hike near South Lake Tahoe, officials say.

Airman 1st Class Tyler Oimoen was involved in an unspecified hiking incident on Monday, Beale Air Force Base officials said. Exactly what caused the accident is still under investigation.

Oimoen had been stationed at Beale AFB for over a year. He was a food service apprentice.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Airman Oimoen’s family, co-workers and friends. During this difficult time we are caring for his family and co-workers with the support of the Beale community,” said Lt. Col. Matthew R. Mountcastle, 9th Force Support Squadron commander, in a statement.

Oimoen was a native of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
