DELHI (CBS13) – A Central Valley deputy has been shot and is in critical condition.
The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. in the city of Delhi, south of Turlock. According to KGPE, the scene is along Harmony Ranch Drive.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to a home on a domestic violence call. Once there, a suspect walked out of the home with an assault-style weapon and began firing at the deputies.
One deputy was hit. That deputy has been flown to a Modesto hospital and is undergoing surgery.
Deputies returned fire and killed the suspect. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
The sheriff’s office says the injured deputy is a seasoned veteran and has been with the agency for more than 10 years.
