Nobody Hurt When Bullet Strikes Los Angeles Police Car

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles officials say a police car was struck by a bullet and authorities closed a freeway during the search for a shooter.

Police Officer Norma Eisenman says nobody was hurt in the shooting early Sunday just south of State Route 134 in the Eagle Rock neighborhood.

Eisenman says officers in the car were investigating reports of gunfire in the area when they heard a thumping sound. She says the officers found a bullet hole in the car and immediately called for backup.

The freeway was shut down in both directions about 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles as authorities set up a perimeter. The westbound side was eventually reopened, but eastbound lanes remained closed several hours later.

Investigators have not released a suspect description.
