Elderly Driver Struck And Killed By Metal Nut
MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) — An elderly driver was struck in the neck and killed by a large metal nut as he drove on a busy Northern California highway.
Highway patrol officer Art Montiel told KTVU (http://bit.ly/2cPSxAo ) that the 82-year-old driver was struck by the item when it smashed through his windshield about 1 p.m. Friday.
The driver then collided with the center divider and eventually came to a stop.
The driver was headed northbound on U.S. Highway 101 in Menlo Park, just north of Palo Alto.
Traffic appeared to be returning to normal ahead of the evening commute.
