Benicia Votes Down Plan That Would Send Oil Trains Through Sacramento

BENICIA (CBS13) — The Benicia City Council has tossed aside a plan to run crude oil trains to the city that would have taken the route through Sacramento, Roseville and Davis.

The plan has drawn protest and condemnation from people in cities along the planned rail line. Along with environmental concerns, recent accidents and explosions involving oil trains had residents concerned.

It would have sent more than tens of thousands barrels from the Bakken oil field in North Dakota on railroad tracks through Roseville, Sacramento, West Sacramento and Davis to name a few cities. Oil from the Bakken field is more volatile than many other types of oil.
