2 Men Arrested In Murder Of 13-Year-Old Modesto Girl

MODESTO (CBS13) – Detectives have arrested two men in connection to the shooting death of a 13-year-old girl in south Modesto.

Modesto police say the shooting happened back on May 30. Officers responded to the 1600 block of Pelton Avenue to investigate a reported shooting and found that a teen girl had been shot. She was later pronounced dead.

The girl was later identified as 13-year-old Brisa Covarrubias. Another teen, a 15-year-old boy, was also found hit by gunfire in the incident.

Police say both teens were in front of their home when a car pulled up. Some words were exchanged between the teens and the people in the car and the incident escalated to a passenger in the car pulling out a gun and opening fire.

Thursday, Modesto police announced they had made an arrest in the case while serving search warrants.

Two men, 19-year-old Emilio Silva and 24-year-old Juan Carlos Cruz, were arrested. Both have been booked at Stanislaus County Jail and are facing murder charges.
