Suspect Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Fair Oaks Neighborhood

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — A brazen burglary suspect has been killed in an officer-involved shooting, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies said on Friday.

The shooting happened on Piedra Way, north of Madison Avenue.

Deputies say the suspect tried breaking into two homes on Tuscon Circle before 5 a.m. on Friday. He was successful breaking into the first one when the resident spotted him and called police. The suspect then fled and ended up at another house, where the neighbor held the door shut while calling 911.

Responding deputies set up a perimeter to find the man, but as they were doing that, someone matching his description appeared. Deputies told him to put his hands up, but instead he pointed something at the deputies, prompting them to open fire, killing the man.

No gun was found at the scene, and investigators have not disclosed what the object was. The shooting happened before dawn on Friday on a street deputies described as dark and only lit by their patrol car headlights.

Sheriff's spokesman Tony Turnbull described the alleged burglar's work as brazen, since the suspect attempted to break into one house immediately after the first one.

The suspect has been identified as a 41-year-old man.
