Dozens Gather To Mourn Girl, 3, Killed In Stockton Shooting

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Dozens gathered for a candlelight vigil in Stockton Tuesday night, mourning the loss of a toddler killed in a drive-by shooting.

Melanie Martinez, who was just three-years-old, was caught in the crossfire Sunday in south Stockton as she sat in the backseat of her family's car.

Her family drove her to a hospital, where she later died.

Stockton's mayor Anthony Silva joined the grieving family and friends. He said change starts with the community.

"Police are not the saviors of the people, the people are. The people need to step up and say 'we don't want to tolerate this behavior in our city anymore,'" Silva said.

Police are now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
