Whole Foods Pulls Out Of Midtown Sacramento Development

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Hopes for a Whole Foods in Midtown Sacramento have been dashed after the company pulled out of its lease on Wednesday.

The grocery store was part of a development that was supposed to break ground this week in Midtown Sacramento.

A parking garage at the corner of 21st and L streets will be replaced by the planned building, which will have residential housing as well as parking.

The company released a statement on Wednesday:

Unfortunately, following a series of timing challenges we faced with the landlord, Whole Foods Market opted to terminate the lease for our Midtown Sacramento store. We remain committed to finding the right site in Sacramento, but have not secured a location yet.

The first phase will be the construction of the parking garage. The second phase which was supposed to have the Whole Foods, wasn't expected to begin until 2017.

The company has a location on Arden Way in Sacramento County.
