Howie Long Among Group Pushing For NFL Stadium In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Proponents of an NFL stadium in Las Vegas - including former Oakland Raider and TV analyst Howie Long - are trying to rally support for a plan to build it with $750 million in public money.

Long joined leaders from the Laborers Union, Caesars Entertainment and UNLV football for a news conference on Monday. The event also featured a tailgate party and cheerleaders from UNLV and the Raiders.

Speakers called the stadium an important opportunity for Las Vegas.

Gov. Brian Sandoval is expected to call lawmakers into a special session this month to consider financing a stadium and convention center expansion. Steve Hill of the Governor's Office of Economic Development said supporters would need to help get the project across the finish line.

Opponents of putting hotel tax revenue toward a stadium have recently become more organized.
