Fairfield Police: Killer Clown Threats Against Schools Are Just Social Media Hoaxes

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — Fairfield Police say someone is posting killer clown threats against schools on social media.

The threats follow a nationwide series of clown sightings and hoaxes, preying on people's natural fear of clowns like the ones seen in Stephen King's "It."

Police say they take any threat seriously, but point out these posts appear to be copycat threats meant to disrupt schools and scare the public.

It's important to remember that most clowns are trustworthy and meant to spread merriment and mirth, not death and devastation. While some people may have intense phobias related to a childhood trauma involving a birthday party, the biggest threat most clowns pose is the occasional bursting balloon animal.
