As Marine Shot In Los Angeles Is Laid To Rest, Search Continues For His Killer

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A young Marine gunned down while on leave in South Los Angeles will be mourned at a funeral Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Lance Cpl. Carlos Alfonso Segovia Lopez will be eulogized Wednesday by his mother, fellow Marines, Mayor Eric Garcetti and others.

The 19-year-old Marine was on leave from Camp Pendleton when he was shot in the head while driving through South Los Angeles on Sept. 16. He died a few days later.

Segovia was a native of El Salvador and a U.S. citizen who joined the Marine Corps after high school, where he was in a group that helped others finish school and worked with a charity that helped the homeless.

The city has offered a $50,000 reward to find the killer.
