New Emergency School Gives Homeless Children A Safe Place During The Day

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Homeless children in Sacramento now have a safe place to go during the day.

Mustard Seed at Loaves & Fishes is an emergency school for homeless children from preschool to 8th grade.

Homeless families say they're grateful to have a safe place to go during the day. But the school says many families have no place to sleep at night, which is why it's calling on the county to provide more shelter.

"This is a really big part of my kid still being able to be normal," said parent Kendra Potter. "And be around kids and being with teachers and children that are in the same situation so they're not teased."

Mustard Seed says last week nearly half of their families were camping outside or sleeping in their cars.
