Third Arrest In Shooting At Police With Ride-Along Passenger
MADERA, Calif. (AP) - Police in the Central Valley have arrested a third suspect in a shooting at a police cruiser that had a passenger interested in police work on a ride-along.
Madera police announced Friday night that they had arrested James Cruz, a suspected gang member, in Fresno. According to jail records, the 42-year-old Cruz was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and a parole violation.
The shooting happened Oct. 23 after Madera police officer Julian Garcia attempted to stop a sports utility vehicle for a broken light.
Police say the driver, 26-year-old Serena Arroyo, sped away and then more than a dozen shots were fired at the police car. The woman on the ride-along was hurt by flying glass. The officer was not injured.
Police have previously arrested Arroyo and a third person they say was in the SUV, 33-year-old Thomas Garcia.
