Tubbs Snags Big Endorsement In Stockton Mayor's Race

STOCKTON (CBS13) - Less than a week out from the election, the Stockton mayor's race is heating up and one really big politico is weighing in.

Michael Tubbs's campaign announced Wednesday that President Barack Obama was endorsing him for Stockton mayor. Pres. Obama released a short statement on Tubbs touting the councilman.

Tubb's opponent - incumbent mayor Anthony Silva - shared a video a little after the endorsement announcement Wednesday morning. The video details Silva's personal story and his vision for Stockton.

The two are battling in a run-off for Stockton mayor after June's primary election saw Tubbs win a plurality of the vote. Silva's campaign has been hampered by an arrest in August at a camp for disadvantaged youth.

Tubbs also had a run-in with the law in October 2014 when he was arrested for DUI.

At just 26 years old, Tubbs' run for mayor has attracted some national media attention.

Pres. Obama has been releasing a flurry of endorsements as the election nears.
