Who Killed And Buried A Man In A Shallow Grave On A College Campus?

SONOMA COUNTY (CBS13) — A man's body was found buried in a shallow grave on the campus of Sonoma State University on Wednesday.

The man found on the Sonoma State campus has been identified as Kirk Kimberly, 18 of Cotati, and investigators are trying to figure out who is responsible for his death.

Kimberly was reported missing on Oct. 17. His death is being treated as a homicide.

His body was found about 200 yards from the corner of a parking lot. The sheriff's office is conducting an autopsy, but has said based on decomposition, the body was recently buried there.

Deputies spent Thursday filing through several missing person reports and gathering whatever information they can to find out who killed him.

"It is a very slow methodical process. We want to make sure that we collect all the evidence, every little finger and hair that could possibly lead to a potential suspect," said Sgt. Spencer Crum.

A university landscaper found the Kimberly on Wednesday because a portion of the man's head and some hair were visible, Crum said. He was found face-down, covered in mud.

Students on the Sonoma State campus say they're taking extra precautions to stay safe after the grisly discovery.
