Volunteer Program Helps Hospital Patients Cast Votes

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dozens of patients at a Los Angeles hospital were able to vote from their beds thanks to a volunteer program.

Lara Ibrahim had planned to vote at her usual polling place but ended up giving birth earlier than expected.

She cast her ballot Tuesday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center - with her new baby, George, by her side.

Ibrahim was one of more than 50 patients who requested ballots. Twenty-year-old Daisy Banuelos cast her first-ever vote from her hospital room. She said she was nervous but excited.

Volunteers brought ballots to eligible patients and then dropped them off at a polling station.
