K9 Bodie Dies Of Bacterial Infection

According to the Sacramento Police Department Canine Association, Bodie fell ill unexpectedly this week and was unable to stand or walk.

A vet diagnosed him with a bacterial infection.

He also had a tumor on the left side of his face, lowering his white blood cell count and stifling his ability to fight the infection.

Bodie died peacefully surrounded by his family, friends and the doctors and staff who saved his life over four years ago.

While chasing down a suspect in Land Park in May 2012, Bodie was shot once in the left paw and twice in the jaw. He received multiple surgeries, but sadly, couldn't return to work.

"He just wasn't at a point, for his own safety, to return to work with the injuries that he had," Sgt. Steve Oliveira said.
