Appeals Court Revives Suit Against Yolo County Sheriff

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A federal appeals court has revived a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the court said Wednesday that a federal judge in Sacramento made a mistake when he dismissed the suit two years ago.

Veteran correctional sergeant Victoria Zetwick says in the suit that Prieto embraced her and kissed her on the cheek more than 100 times between 1998 and 2012. Zetwick, who is now retired, says Prieto did the same to other female employees and created a hostile work environment.

The judge who dismissed the case agreed with Prieto's attorneys, who argued that the sheriff's actions were just casual greetings. The appeals court disagreed, saying the unwelcome kisses could create a hostile or abusive work environment.
