Man Cleaning Gun Shoots Himself In Stomach

MENDON, Utah (AP) - A Cache County man has been hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach while performing gun maintenance.

The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/2f9ltTq ) that the 64-year-old man was cleaning a Glock .45-caliber handgun in his home when he fired a round into his lower abdomen.

The man was able to call 911 and he remained conscious before being taken to Logan Regional Hospital.

Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Peterson called the shooting "an unfortunate accident" and says police don't expect to pursue any charges.
