Bright Supermoon Brings Hunters Too Close To Orangevale Home

ORANGEVALE (CBS13) - The rare Supermoon helped shed some extra light for the Litherland kids to shoot hoops Monday night.

But as it turns out, the kids aren't the only ones taking shots in the backyard. Someone else seems to have taken a shot and missed.

"(We have) four kids running around the backyard, a sharp arrow, and a dog," said Brandon Litherland who found a three foot arrow in the backyard. "A little nerve-racking when you see something sharp like that sticking out of your lawn."

While it was likely intended for someone's Thanksgiving bird, he is grateful it didn't hit the kids.

"This arrow could've definitely inflicted some pretty serious damage," he said.

While Orangevale is country living, within city limits it's illegal to hunt.

Deputies say you can't be within 150 yards of a home with a firearm or other deadly weapon during hunting season.

"I'm ok with hunting. I'm fine with that within the confines of the law, but there are a lot of homes. It's very densely populated here," he said.

Hunting is certainly not permitted around here and Brandon wants neighbors to be warned to keep their bows and arrows out of his yard.

"We can just be thankful and hope people stop hunting in Orangevale," he said.

You must have a valid license to hunt wild turkey and you can only bag two per fall season in designated areas.
