Deadly Explosion Kills 4 In Modesto Home

MODESTO (CBS13) - An explosion levels a home in South Modesto leaving firefighters to discover four bodies, two of them may be children.

It happened on Avenue D around at 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

"It blew up. It sounded like a bomb I guess. It woke up guys three blocks down," said a neighbor down the road.

Another neighbor next door captured video just moments after hearing the earth shattering boom.

"The motor home just burst into fire and flames," said Robert Arredondo.

He said there was nothing anyone could do.

"We were hoping to see somebody outside, but we never saw anybody," he said.

His fears may have been confirmed. Firefighters found four bodies inside the burned out mobile home.

"They took care of the kids and they seemed like a pretty good family. He want the kids to the gate for the bus in the morning and waited outside for them to pick up," he said.

Arredondo said the couple was raising their grandchildren and is heartbroken for their family.

"I haven't known them for a long time, but we're neighbors and it's sad, I mean I have kids myself," he said.

Autopsies will be performed Monday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
