Sheriff: Sherri Papini Was Kidnapped; Captors Still At Large
REDDING (CBS13) – Sherri Papini, the Redding mother who disappeared while jogging three weeks ago, has been found safe, and now law enforcement officials say she was kidnapped.
Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said Papini was kidnapped on November 2 and had been bound by her captors. Around 4:30 a.m. today, they released her along County Road 17 near Interstate 5 in Yolo County.
She was bound with restraints but was able to flag down a motorist.
CHP, Yolo County Sheriff's deputies, and medical aid arrived on the scene. Papini was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries she suffered while in captivity.
Shasta County Sheriff's Department deputies are looking for two Hispanic females who are said to be driving a dark-colored SUV. At least one of them is armed with a handgun.
Papini is in stable condition and is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. She has been reunited with her husband.
Bosenko said it's unknown if Papini's knew her captors, or what their motives may have been.
"I spoke over the phone with her husband, Keith, and he is overjoyed with the outcome...," said Bosenko.
After hearing the news about her discovery, Keith drove to the hospital.
This is a critical, active, ongoing investigation," said Bosenko.
