Couple Reported Missing In Sierra Found Safe
EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) - The missing couple from Yuba City was reunited with family Monday night.
Rory and Susan Holloter went missing on Saturday after they told family members they were going four-wheeling in the foothills.
A search and rescue crew found them just after 4 p.m. Monday in the El Dorado National Forest, and the couple seemed to be in good spirits.
"We weren't planning on being stuck but we had sleeping bags, food and water," said Susan Holloter.
The husband and wife were relieved to be back in their family's arms.
"I'm so glad to be back," said Susan, clenching onto her sister.
Family members say the couple went four-wheeling in the foothills Saturday and were supposed to return home the same day.
As the hours went by, family members lost connection with the couple.
"We did have some cell phone data in the beginning, but unfortunately that tapered off Sunday," said Sgt. Tasha Thompson of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
Rory Holloter managed to find cell service to text his son Dustin on Sunday, telling him that he and his wife were stuck in the snow, and they needed help.
Dustin called 911 and immediately, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office sent out more than a dozen search and rescue crews to look for the couple in snowy conditions.
"The weather set in fast. We are just fortunate we found them today and they didn't have to spend another night out here," said Sgt. Thompson.
Thompson says one of the rescue teams found a set of foot prints along a forest service road, which led them to the couple.
"I started to panic a little today. Tomorrow was gonna be burn the tire day!", recalled Susan.
Instead, Susan and her husband Rory have quite a story of survival to tell.
