Sacramento Cirque du Soleil Show Will Go On After Fatal Accident In SF

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Cirque du Soleil worker was killed in an accident before a show in San Francisco.

It happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in one of the back parking lots behind AT&T Park. Police are describing the incident as an industrial accident.

Investigators say a technician was severely injured while operating equipment. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Attendees had not yet arrived. People were later informed the show was canceled.

"We showed up early, an hour before the performance. We were waiting in line when we got the notice," said one patron Chris Barretto.

Customers were given handwritten notices that the show was called off and they could get full refunds.

Cirque du Soleil also issued this statement:

"I am heartbroken. I wish to extend in my name and in the name of all Cirque du Soleil employees my sincerest sympathies and offer my full support to Gilles and his family. Olivier has always been a member of our tight family and a beloved colleague," said Cirque du Soleil CEO, Daniel Lamarre.

The worker's identity will not be released until his family has been notified.

Cirque du Soleil is scheduled to perform at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Wednesday. The scheduled LUZIA show has been canceled, while Cirque's Toruk show will go on as scheduled.
