Suspected Wrong-Way Driver Dies After Fleeing Four-Car Crash In Elk Grove

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A wrong-way driver has died after a crash on Wednesday and fleeing police.

Elk Grove police say the driver was traveling the wrong way before a four-vehicle crash at Elk Grove Boulevard and Wymark Drive. After the crash, officers say he fled on foot and was found by officers.

During a struggle with officers, investigators say a Taser was used. Police say the man continued to resist officers while on the ground and became unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We're going to reconstruct the two parts, the collision and we're going to do a separate investigation into the in-custody death," said Ofc. Chris Trim with the Elk Grove Police Department.

Another driver suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The cause of death is still under investigation and it's unknown whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The man's identity has not been released.
