Jake Browning, Jonah Williams Highlight Folsom High's Role In College Football Playoff

FOLSOM (CBS13) — All eyes in the sports world are on the four college football teams that were selected for the College Football Playoff. Two local players are making national headlines for their play.

"We knew he was special moving onto the next level," said Kris Richardson the Folsom High School Football Coach.

Richardson coached Jake Browning, the current University of Washington quarterback.

"He's a great student of the game of football," said Richardson, "and one of the hardest workers we've ever had."

Browning went 44-2 as a high school starter. He set a national record for touchdown passes. And Richardson says he stayed humble through it all.

"All Jake wanted to do was get better at football," Richardson explained.

"With Jake, you just saw that he was naturally gifted," said Steve Montoya who covered Browning for several years with MaxPreps.

"Even when they won it all, he was all about the team, his family, his coaches more than himself," said Montoya.

Browning won't be the only one suiting up for a try at a national title. His former teammate will also be on the field wearing crimson.

"On the other side of the ball for Alabama is Jonah Williams, who was Jake's tackle,"' said Montoya.

Williams is a 300 lbs true freshman workhorse for the Crimson Tide. The Folsom duo's success has people looking to the central valley for gridiron talent.

"It really is showing how good Sacramento football has really become," said Montoya.

Washington and Alabama play on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta.
