MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a 16-year-old Marysville girl who died in a car crash Thursday morning.

Investigators say weather and dangerous road conditions are among the factors they're looking into.

"It's just a bad curve, it's a sharp curve," said Rose Holeman, who drives to work each day on the road where the wreck happened.

"Somehow she lost control of her vehicle and ended up in front of the Tahoe, which ended up broadsiding her and killing her," said Officer Jodie Beck with the California Highway Patrol.

Tommi Sue Miller, 16, died at the scene. Her car slid in front of an oncoming vehicle on Feather River Boulevard just south of Grand Avenue.

"It was raining at the time and it was dark, so the roadways were slick," said Beck.

Miller was a student at Marysville High School.

"It's always unfortunate when we have a fatality and I think it's extra hard when it's a juvenile involved," said Beck.

Friends reacted to the loss of life on Facebook. Kansas Merritt sent CBS13 a note which reads: "Anyone that came into her beautiful life fell in love with her. She was too good for this world and sadly could only stay with us for so long."

"They must be heartbroken because you think, OK, my kid is going to school, I'll see them when they get home. And then they don't come home. I'm sure it's got to be just tragic," said Holeman.

Holeman also has a 16-year-old daughter. She saw the aftermath of the wreck on her way to work.

"I was worried that...somebody got hurt because it's got to be bad because they blocked off the road," she said.

"Take extra time especially when it's raining," said Beck.

The 65-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
