Part Of Highway 49 Closed In Sierra County Due To Mud, Rock Slides

SIERRA COUNTY (CBS13) – Mud and rock slides have forced crews to close a portion of Highway 49 in the Sierra.

California Highway Patrol’s Grass Valley division says the slides have happened north of Downieville.

The incidents have forced CHP to close the freeway from Downieville to Sierra City.

Only locals are being let through for the time being.

  1. There is no FREEWAY there. It is a narrow winding HIGHWAY that most the time has no shoulder due to a river on one side and a mountain on the other.

  2. If there was a freeway, us locals would have liked to have been told about it lol
