Reports Conflicting On Tom Petty's Condition After Heart Attack

UPDATE 2:25 p.m.: After initial reports indicating Tom Petty had died after suffering a heart attack, police now tell CBS News they have no information about his passing.

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA) — Rocker Tom Petty was reportedly dead Monday after suffering a heart attack at his Malibu home.

The 66-year-old musician was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital Sunday night in full cardiac arrest and was placed on life support, according to independent reports from TMZ and Variety.

By Monday afternoon, TMZ had backtracked on its initial report and claimed the singer was still clinging to life.
