Sacramento Man Safe After Alleged Home Invasion Kidnapping

DAVIS (CBS13) — A Sacramento man is safe after he was allegedly kidnapped following a home invasion in Davis.

Police say they have not had contact with 21-year-old Amani Marquis Sandoval-Jones, but his family confirmed he was safe Wednesday night. How he was found is under investigation. Now, police need the public's help in tracking down the suspect.

The incident took place Tuesday night around 9:30 on the 500 block of K Street in Davis while Jones was visiting a friend.

"I'm not doing too well but that's not the concern, my concern is all about Amani," said Nicholas Sasano.

Sasano, his roommate, and Jones were all at the airport at the time. He describes the terrifying moments that unfolded.

"He forcibly came in the door with a black ski mask, a handgun, with a red laser pointed at us. He said give me the money, we didn't know what he was talking about then he took Amani with him and said 'Come with me.' He pointed the gun at him and left," said Sasano who was concerned for the well being of his friend.

Sasano says he was not aware of any suspicious activity and says they did not know the suspect. He described the man as 5'6" about 180 pounds, possibly Latino.

The small apartment complex on K Street is mostly filled with college students who were stunned to learn the news.

"To know that someone came here with a gun and started a kidnapping, that's crazy," said Max Tafarella.

He adds, "Everyone's so innocent here. We're college students, and it just doesn't seem like it has to do with us. But it's very shocking."

Tafarella doesn't know the victim but says he had seen Jones frequent the complex often to visit friends.

"He doesn't strike me as the type to do drugs or be involved in anything like this," he said.

Police say Jones's white Tacoma pick up truck was spotted by a traffic camera in north highlands about 20 min after the home invasion

But it's unclear who the occupants were or who was driving.

Now, police say their focus is on tracking down this armed robbery and kidnapping suspect.

"If he's armed with a handgun, anything can happen," said Lt Paul Doroshov with Davis Police.

Meanwhile, some neighbors say they'll be locking their doors, and hope no one else gets hurt.

"I just hope the guy gets caught, that's the first priority," said Tafarella.

Police do need the public's help in piecing all this together and finding the suspect.

If anyone has any information that could be of help, contact Davis police.
