Teeth, Bone Fragments At Home Where Missing Veteran's Body Found
NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — Nevada County Sheriff's investigators located new possible evidence in the murder and torture case of Vietnam veteran Stanley Norman.
Deputies say 70-year-old Norman's life ended in a violent attack in the backyard of a Nevada City home, where investigators serving a search warrant Friday discovered the evidence, including human teeth, bone fragments, and rings.
It's the same backyard where human bones in the remnants of a bonfire were recovered in a previous search.
Deputies were joined in Friday's search by a team from the Human Identification Laboratory at Chico State.
Two men are under arrest in the murder and torture case. Sean Bryant was arrested over Memorial Day weekend. A second suspect, Michael McCauley, was arrested a week ago.
Both appeared in court Friday as deputies were serving the search warrant.
Norman's friend Kristen Day was in court too.
"There's a lot of details that are going to come out that don't paint a pretty picture of how Stan Norman's life ended," Day said.
Stanley was last seen publicly with Bryant at a Nevada City bar before he went missing. Investigators now believe Bryant and McCauley teamed up to kill Stanley and cover up the crime.
"The puzzle pieces are falling into place," Day said. "We know that we have an amazing team of professionals, doing that construction."
Stanley and Bryant were in an American Legion motorcycle group together, and those who knew them thought they were friends.
Investigators are not releasing the motive in the murder, as they continue collecting evidence.
"We're pretty confident we're going to get justice this time," Day said.
Both are expected to be formally charged next week.
