NHRA: Clay Millican Breaks Top Fuel Track Record In Norwalk

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) — Clay Millican broke the Top Fuel track speed record Saturday in rain-shortened qualifying at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

Millican had a 3.750-second run at 332.67 mph in the lone qualifying session of the day. He has six No. 1 qualifiers this season.

"Our goal was to be in the top five," Millican stated. "Once we did that, that allowed (crew chief) David Grubnick to get after it that last run. We really weren't expecting a lot different than that. When the car does what we want it to do it makes everyone on the team pretty confident about what's going on."

Courtney Force topped the Funny Car field, Jeg Coughlin Jr. was the fastest in Pro Stock, and Matt Smith took the No. 1 spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Force ran a 3.935 at 327.66 on Friday in a Chevrolet Camaro. The points leader secured her eighth No. 1 qualifier of the year.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. had a 6.612 at 208.46 in his Chevrolet Camaro during the only Pro Stock session of the weekend. Smith ran a 6.866 at 195.39 on a Magnum in his lone qualifying run Friday.
