Highway 99 Southbound Reopened Leaving Sacramento Due To Shooting

UPDATE 10:52 p.m. — California Highway Patrol issued the following statement.

"At approximately 1750 hours, a red Cadillac Escalade was traveling on southbound State Route 99 south of 12th Avenue, when a white SUV pulled along the passengers' side and began shooting into the vehicle. Both the right front passenger and driver were struck by bullets. The driver was able to drive the victim vehicle to a local hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries and the passenger suffered major injuries. The white SUV and its occupants are still outstanding at this time. The southbound lanes of State Route 99 were closed from 12th Avenue to 47th Avenue until approximately 2035 hours as officers investigated the incident and searched for evidence.

 We are seeking the public's assistance in locating the suspect vehicle and its occupants. Please call the CHP Sacramento Center at 916-861-1300 with information."

 

UPDATE 8:52 p.m. — Crews have reportedly wrapped up their shooting investigation and have reopened the highway. Traffic is still moving slowly through the area.

UPDATE 8:19 p.m. — Sacramento Police tell us this is related to a shooting that occurred on Highway 99 earlier this evening.

UPDATE 8:15 p.m. — Traffic is now backed up all the way to N Street on the Capital City Freeway.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Caltrans is reporting that traffic is being diverted off of Highway 99 southbound at 12th Street.

They say it's due to police activity.

 

There is no word yet as to when Highway 99 will be reopened.
