If you haven’t heard, it’s kind of a big deal. The first official trailer for “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” has been released.

Slated for a Dec. 20 release, the whole gang — Ron, Brick, Brian, and Champ — is back for the highly-anticipated sequel.

It’s the 80s, and the news team is staying classy in New York City for the first 24-hour news channel.

The less than two minute trailer already stirs up some laughs and — dare I say — promises to be just as funny as the first.

It’s not too often that I’m blown away with the beauty of a film trailer, and it’s even rarer that I don’t end up disappointed. Thankfully, “Man of Steel” lived up to every facet of my visual expectations.

Director Zack Snyder doesn’t disappoint and visually continues to build off his previous works, such as “300” and “Watchmen.” In the spectrum of superhero films, it borrows some form “The Dark Knight” trilogy with its nitty-gritty feel, which comes as no surprise considering trilogy director Christopher Nolan also serves as a producer.

However, my one complaint about the film’s visuals is the overuse of the handheld camera. For the most part, it added to the action and really engaged the audience in being a part of the fighting. But, Snyder didn’t need the technique every time someone fell or was pushed around. It just became a distraction at times, much like J.J. Abrams’ overuse of lens flare in the first “Star Trek.”

I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into the Superman reboot regarding the plot. I appreciated the wholesomeness director Bryan Singer held onto in 2006’s “Superman Returns” but like most was disappointed overall with the film’s lack of excitement — something “Man of Steel” doesn’t have any trouble with.

Snyder gives us a bit of old mixed in with some creative story telling. Like 1978′s Oscar-nominated “Superman,” we are first introduced to a dying Krypton with Jor-El getting ready to ship off his son. Then we quickly jump forward to a grown Clark Kent out at sea as he journey’s to discover his origins.

The first half of the film is a lot of jumping around from past and present, which doesn’t get confusing, but does take away from build up to any emotional investment. With a running time of nearly two and a half hours, I was surprised with the lack of build up with some of the film’s major elements. For example, Clark goes from not knowing all the powers he possesses to flying in a matter of seconds of trying.

What I can’t complain about is the casting of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. He bears a rugged resemblance to his famous predecessor. Cavill manages to capture the good-hearted nature of the hero without coming across as naïve, which is the problem I had with the boyishly-faced Brandon Routh.

As a comic lover, I could nitpick every bit of the film, but it wouldn’t give it the due praise it deserves. “Man of Steel” does everything right in separating itself from past Superman films, and reintroduces us to the most famous of all superheroes.

It may not be perfect, but it certainly has reenergized a franchise many have wanted to see in the sunlight once again.

From con man to ruler, “Oz the Great and Powerful” tells the story of a man who goes from being a small-time touring magician to becoming the Wizard who one day helps Dorothy Gale return back to Kansas.

The prequel certainly is not the first reimagining of author L. Frank Baum’s world of Oz, but it does a wonderful job of reintroducing us to a land that first captivated movie goers in a single transition from black and white to color in 1939.

Director Sam Raimi’s visually-stunning film is what blu-ray was built for, with every bit of scenery quickly coming to life with color beginning with the first moment we see Oz (James Franco) descend into the fantasy world in a hot air balloon. From the famous yellow brick road to the Wicked Witch’s flying apes, Raimi takes us back to the mystical land with such detail it makes the original seem like a hazy dream nearly forgotten.

With a few new characters and some iconic ones, Raimi delivers a surprisingly entertaining film, despite not throwing any surprises at audiences. However, the lack of revelations isn’t disappointing, and perhaps demonstrates the director’s respect for the story many are already familiar with. Instead, we are taken on a journey in which we learn about a reclusive character we knew little about until now.

Before Your Very Eyes: From Kansas to Oz: This feature takes art lovers behind the green screen and through the process of creating Oz. From ideas sketched on napkins to the final visual effects, this feature gives wonderful insight of just how much work goes into bring imagination to life.

Bloopers: Always a fun feature, who doesn’t enjoy watching actors laugh at themselves as they stumble over their lines.

China Girl and the Suspension of Disbelief: Like the masked magician, this feature unveils the magic behind the workings of how moviemakers bring to life computer generated characters.

Mila’s Metamorphosis: This feature is pretty straight forward as we see the grueling makeup process of creating the Wicked Witch.

Mr. Elfman’s Musical Concoctions: This interview with celebrated composer Danny Elfman is not just for music lovers as we see what inspired the film’s score.

My Journey in Oz by James Franco: The jack-of-all-trades Franco takes audiences on a ride of his Oz experience through this documentary that gives some personality to the film’s making.

Second Screen Experience: Features like this are what make home videos worth they buy and give you more excuses to re-watch your favorite films. This interactive experience features bonuses and specials for fans that creates an interactive movie viewing experience by simply downloading an app on your smartphone.

Walt Disney and the Road to Oz: This feature is for Disney fanatics, as archive footage of the visionary takes us through his fascination with Oz.

Overall, Oz is entertaining and offers up plenty to enjoy from both film and features. So gather the family for an adventures return to the land of Oz.

Idealistic is perhaps the best word to describe the HBO political drama that takes audiences inside the workings of a fictitious newsroom.

The Aaron Sorkin-penned show gives a behind-the-scenes look of the CNN-like Atlantis Cable News network as it battles to distinguish itself as the leading source in answering hard-hitting questions, regardless of what the network’s advertisers may think.

As a working journalist in the broadcast industry, I’ll admit my bias towards “The Newsroom.” I love the show. It may give my friends and family an exaggerated idea of what my work life is like, but it also exemplifies the ideals of why I became a journalist and for what the profession strives.

Each episode focuses on a news topic that occurred throughout 2012, such as the president’s announcement of Osama Bin Laden’s assassination and the shooting of former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. It weaves through how each event was covered in the media and then the ideal way of how it could have been covered, as demonstrated by our ACN news team.

As well written as the show is, Newsroom will seem familiar to Sorkin fans as it falls in line with the writer’s other television ventures. The behind-the-scenes formula is all too familiar to that of “Sports Night,” “The West Wing,” and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.”

In one episode, Sorkin even plagiarizes himself, reusing Robert Herrick’s poem “To The Virgins, To Make Much Of Time” to inspire one character to pursue a love interest. Sorkin used the poem once before for the same reason in a West Wing episode.

Much like the dialog-heavy series, season one’s home video release has bonuses more centered on informative features than game-like interactions.

Audio Commentaries: Five of season one’s 10 hour-long episodes include audio commentary. My stance on this standard feature has always been the same — it’s for nerds (myself included). Hear straight from the horse’s mouth what the cast and crew think as you go through the episodes. What’s really great about this feature is that commentaries are usually recorded long after the season has ended. So sometimes, which is the case here, you might get to hear a little about what’s ahead for the show.

Deleted Scenes: Though they don’t offer much new insight, the deleted scenes are enjoyable. They certainly won’t clarify anything for you, but just give you a little bit more face time with some of your favorite characters.

Digital Copy: The Blu-ray/DVD combo package also includes a digital copy, making it easy for you to take your favorite episodes with you on all your portable devices.

Inside The Episode: An HBO series standard, these recaps are of Sorkin giving his insight into each episode, helping better understand the reasons behind the developments of the characters and plotlines.

Mission Control: This is an especially wonderful feature for anyone that’s ever done set design for a high school play. Take a start-to-finish look into the show’s newsroom from the design to the building, and even get a look into its practicality.

The Rundown: The season one roundtable discussion features cast and crew members much like the audio commentary. As such, a lot of what is said does overlap, but it still provides an insightful look at the show.

Overall, Newsroom season one’s features are an insightful complement to Sorkin’s masterfully-crafted series, offering up some of the finest in television entertainment.
