General manager Trent Baalke said in a statement Wednesday that “this contract allows Justin to finish his career as a 49er!”

The 33-year-old Smith was sidelined the final 2 1/2 games of the regular season, ending his streak of 185 consecutive starts. He returned in the playoffs to help the 49ers reach the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Today the Grant Napear Show featured a wide variety of topics. Grant talked about his favorite sports memories with his father and talked to callers about their favorite sports memories with their fathers. He also discussed the US Open, the 49ers and the Sacramento Kings. Grant interviewed Matt Maiocco and Scott Hastings.

Matt Maiocco from CSN Bay Area was on with Grant today to talk about the 49ers. Matt talked about 49ers minicamps, and some of the position battles within the organization. He also discussed how impressed he was with Colin Kaepernick and what Eric Mangini’s role with the team will be.

The television analyst for the Denver Nuggets, Scott Hastings, joined Grant to discuss the Nuggets’ offseason so far. The two discussed George Karl’s firing, the future of Andre Iguodala with the team and what the future of the team looks like after their first round exit this season. They also talked about Jason Kidd as a head coach and who the best coach was that Scott played for.

SANTA CLARA (CBS) – A construction worker killed at the site of the new 49ers stadium in Santa Clara Tuesday has been identified.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 63-year-old Donald Eugene White, of Sacramento.

The accident was reported at 6:45 a.m. at the construction site at Tasman Drive and Centennial Boulevard. White was working in an elevator shaft when he was hit in the head by an elevator counterweight, said Santa Clara city spokesman Dan Beerman.

Beerman said word of the death has sent a shock wave through the city.

“Everybody’s walking around here in a daze,” he said.

He said White was an employee of a subcontractor for Turner-Devcon, the stadium project’s general contractor.

“It’s a shame because we’ve had 1,000 people a day working on that site for well over a year now and we’ve had very minimal accidents, and to have this is just devastating for everybody,” he said.

Construction workers wearing hard hats and vests were seen leaving the facility. Work on the $1.3 billion Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara began in April 2012. The 49ers are expected to move there from Candlestick Park for the 2014 season.

The stadium has been selected to host the 2016 Super Bowl.

Grant started his second day back talking about the Sacramento Kings and the upcoming draft. He also discussed the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Final and the U.S Open at Merion this week.

Damon Hack from the Golf Channel joined Grant to talk golf and the upcoming U.S Open. Hack talked about the course conditions and setup, Tiger Woods and his struggles at Memorial as well as Rory McIlroy and his instability with his equipment and play.

New York Yankees Television Announcer Michael Kay chatted with Grant about this year’s Yankees team being “a different breed of Yankee baseball.” Kay thought this year’s team was a better fit for manager Joe Girardi than the team’s of the past loaded with high priced star players. Kay also gave his thoughts on Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and this upcoming series with the Oakland A’s at the Coliseum in Oakland.

Steve Wyche from the NFL Network came on with Grant to discuss offseason football. Wyche gave his thoughts on how the San Francisco 49ers will fare without star wide receiver Michael Crabtree and how the Niners stack up against the Seattle Seahawks and the rest of the NFC West. Wyche also talked about the Oakland Raiders and what has been going on with the franchise under owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Eric Hasseltine, radio play by play announcer for the Memphis Grizzlies, joined Grant to give his insights on how and why head coach Lionel Hollins and the Grizzlies parted ways. Hasseltine also gave his thoughts on who might replace Hollins as the Grizzlies new head coach as well as other offseason issues and the Western Conference Finals loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
